## Why Magnesium?
Magnesium is a natural mineral found in the human body.
* **Mechanical Strength:** Unlike biodegradable polymers (PLA/PGA), magnesium is a metal. It provides significantly higher strength for early weight-bearing.
* **Bone Stimulating:** As magnesium dissolves, it releases ions that actually stimulate bone-building cells (osteoblasts) to grow faster.
* **Elastic Modulus:** Magnesium’s stiffness is almost identical to human bone, virtually eliminating the risk of **Stress Shielding**.
## The Challenge: Corrosion Control
The biggest hurdle has been that magnesium dissolves *too fast*. If the screw disappears before the bone heals, the fracture will fail.

Currently, magnesium hardware is being used in limited trials for:
